Opis
Brama Opatowska w Sandomierzu
Brama
Opatowska w
Sandomierzu jest
jedną z
najlepiej zachowanych gotyckich bram miejskich w Polsce.
Została ufundowana w XIV wieku przez króla Kazimierza Wielkiego. W XVI wieku bramę podwyższono, dodatkowo zwieńczono ją renesansową attyką.
Sandomierskie umocnienia kryły dawniej 4 bramy: Zawichojską, Krakowską, Lubelską i Opatowską - jedyną do dziś zachowaną.
Do miasta można też było wejść poprzez furty Zamiejską i Dominikańską.
Ta ostatnia stoi do dziś niedaleko Bramy Opatowskiej.
The
Abbot's Gate in Sandomierz
The Opatowska
Gate in Sandomierz is one of the best preserved Gothic town gates in
Poland.
It was founded in the fourteenth century by King
Casimir the Great.
In the 16th century the gate was raised and
additionally it was crowned with a Renaissance attic.
Sandomierz's
fortifications used to hide 4 gates: Zawichojska, Krakowska, Lubelska
and Opatowska gates - the only surviving gate.
It was also
possible to enter the town through the Zamiejska and Dominikanska
Gates.
The latter still stands today not far from Opatowska
Gate.
Moreover, there were 21 defensive towers, which together
with the town walls preserved on Żydowska Street, constituted the
fortifications of Sandomierz.
Opatowska Gate is open to
tourists, from the top of the Gothic building on the observation deck
you can admire the beautiful panorama of the city and its
surroundings.
