Opis
Leśny Bank Genów Kostrzyca
Bank powstał w połowie lat 90. XX w. w Miłkowie u podnóża Karkonoszy. Do głównych zadań placówki należy planowanie, organizacja, nadzór nad zbiorami nasion z drzew i krzewów leśnych.
Zgromadzono tam 3,5 tysiąca roślin z różnych kontynentów prezentujące ponad 400 gatunków i odmian.
Forest
Genome Bank Kostrzyca
The
Bank was established in the mid 90's in Miłków at the foot of
Karkonosze.
Its main tasks include planning, organizing and
supervising the collection of seeds from forest trees and shrubs.
Seeds are collected in forest districts all over Poland, in
nature reserves and national parks, then their part is sent to the
Forest Gene Bank.
There they are prepared for long-term
storage.
A modern technological line and laboratory - the Seed
Evaluation Station - are used to carry out the appropriate
technological processes.
The collected seed material is used, on
the one hand, to preserve the most valuable plant genetic resources
and to test the progeny of individual species, and on the other hand
- on behalf of the forest districts - to create seed deposits for
economic needs related to reforestation and afforestation.
An
arboretum is located on the territory of the bank; it has didactic
and cognitive functions, and endangered species are bred there.
There are gathered 3.5 thousand plants from different
continents presenting over 400 species and varieties.
The
arboretum consists of three parts: forest part - where plants
characteristic for the Sudety Mountains are bred, botanic part -
where single specimens of ornamental and exotic plants are planted
and conservation part.
In the arboretum there is a
hydrobiological wastewater treatment plant with the use of
willow-willow root deposit.
