Klasztor Podominikański w Sejnach
Kościół został wzniesiony w latach 1610-1619, na przestrzeni następnych 100 lat powstawał renesansowy klasztor dominikański, który obecnie pełni funkcje wystawiennicze.
W klasztorze mieści się Muzeum Diecezji Sejneńskiej, Muzeum Etnograficzne oraz wystawa stała "Myśmy tu byli", poświęcona Gimnazjum św. Kazimierza.
Działa tu Galeria „Zapiecek”, która w swoich zbiorach prezentuje dzieła lokalnych artystów, pełni funkcję punktu informacji turystycznej.
Muzeum Diecezji Sejneńskiej jest zlokalizowane w sali zwanej skarbcem.
Do
jego najcenniejszych eksponatów należą XIX-wieczne księgi
liturgiczne, monstrancje, kielichy mszalne i pieczęcie biskupie.
W
Muzeum Etnograficznym są zbiory rękodzieła ludowego, eksponaty
związane z historią lokalnego harcerstwa oraz zabytkowe
radioodbiorniki, gramofony i aparaty fotograficzne.
Sejneńskie Towarzystwo Opieki nad Zabytkami prowadzi działalność wystawienniczą klasztoru.
Budowa klasztoru została zakończona w 1706 r.
W 1802 r., po trzecim rozbiorze Polski, władze pruskie skonfiskowały wszystkie ziemie klasztorne, a następnie doprowadziły do kasaty zakonu.
W kolejnych dwóch stuleciach klasztor był siedzibą duchownych i świeckich placówek edukacyjnych.
W 1989 r. stał się własnością kościelną.
The
Dominican Monastery in Sejny
The church was built in
the years 1610-1619, over the next 100 years a Renaissance Dominican
monastery was built, which now serves as an exhibition facility.
The
monastery houses the Museum of the Sejny Diocese, the Ethnographic
Museum and the permanent exhibition "We were here",
dedicated to St Casimir's Gymnasium.
There is also the
"Zapiecek" Gallery which presents works of art by local
artists and serves as a tourist information point.
The Museum of
the Sejny Diocese is located in the hall called the Treasury.
Its
most valuable exhibits include nineteenth century liturgical books,
monstrances, chalices and bishop seals.
In the Ethnographic
Museum there are collections of folk handicrafts, exhibits connected
with the history of local scouting and antique radios, gramophones
and cameras.
The Sejny Monastery Care Society runs the
monastery's exhibition activities.
The construction of the
monastery was completed in 1706.
In 1802, after the third
partition of Poland, the Prussian authorities confiscated all the
monastery lands and led to the dissolution of the order.
In the
following two centuries the monastery was the seat of clerical and
secular educational institutions.
In 1989 it became church
property.
